The thyroid gland is kind of like the body’s “gas pedal.”
A hyper-thyroid revs the body up, and a hypo-thyroid slows it down.
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located near the base of the neck.
We evaluate the whole patient, including history, medications, blood tests and imaging to diagnose and treat thyroid conditions, so you can get back to your normal life.
Some of the conditions we treat:
RFA has been performed in Europe, South America and Asia for decades as one method of treating certain types of thyroid nodules. It was FDA approved in 2018 and is becoming more popular in America for patients who want to avoid thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine and save their thyroid function.
How it works:
An ultrasound is used to guide a needle-like probe into the nodule that is requiring treatment, and radio waves are applied to the nodule to destroy the tissue. That nodule will continue to shrink over the course of the next 3-6 months.
This procedure is done in the office and does not require sedation.
